Outrigger Canoe

The Squamish Paddling Club has launched a funding drive to bring this six-person outrigger canoe (OC6) to our fleet. As interest in paddling continues to grow, an OC6 will allow us to welcome more paddlers, run larger group sessions, and create a more inclusive entry point for beginners.
A six-person canoe is uniquely suited to building community. It provides a stable and supportive platform for learning and rough conditions, while also creating a shared experience that strengthens teamwork and connection. Whether paddling recreationally or training for races, the OC6 brings people together in a way that smaller boats cannot. It also improves safety on Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound by allowing experienced paddlers to guide and support newer members in the same canoe.
This project represents a long-term investment in the club and the broader Squamish community. The canoe alone is approximately $35,000, with additional costs for paddles, a cart, and a trailer. Over its lifetime, it will be used by hundreds of paddlers across all skill levels, supporting everything from first-time experiences to competitive racing pathways.
To help make this possible, we have partnered with Sport BC through the BC Amateur Sport Fund - the BC chapter of the Canadian Council of Provincial & Territorial Sport Federations. This partnership allows donations to be eligible for a tax receipt; making it easier for individuals and businesses to contribute. Every donation directly supports getting this canoe on the water and expanding access to paddling in Squamish.
We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has already contributed to this project, and to those who are considering supporting it. Your generosity has a direct and lasting impact on the growth of paddling in Squamish, and it is greatly appreciated.

Outrigger canoe paddling involves a canoe stabilized by an outrigger float, paddled with a single-bladed paddle. It is a team-oriented discipline with strong roots in Pacific Island culture, and includes both recreational paddling and competitive racing.

The club has tandem and four-person outrigger canoes and runs paddles twice a week. Sessions are a mix of recreational and social paddling, with opportunities for members to progress into racing if they are interested.
