SQUAMISH PADDLING CLUB
If you use a paddle to move...
Squamish Paddling Club is a family friendly paddling club designed to promote youth involvement in safe, coordinated programs. Our Paddling Families Program offers recreational paddling opportunities on club equipment for youth and their parents. We are a Canoe Kayak BC member club and incorporate environmental awareness related to our local waterways in our programming.
ABOUT THE CLUB
Started in 2010 after Squamish Whitewater Paddlers Club closed, Squamish Paddling Club was initially a whitewater paddling club with winter pool sessions for whitewater paddling. In 2014 a collaboration with then Deep Cove Outdoors saw the club co-host the first Canadian Surfski Champs - an event which became the Canadian Downwind Championships in 2018 with the addition of Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Outrigger Canoes.
In November 2018 we introduced a small group of Squamish youth to the kayak stroke on surfskis. In 2019 our 4 person outrigger canoe was delivered and became the anchor boat for our Paddling Families Program - the program which brings youth and parents of school aged children into paddling.
FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT & SERVICES
CLUB BOATS (PADDLING FAMILIES ONLY)
April - September
With our focus on access to paddling for youth, we have developed programming to get entire families paddling. To avoid cost as a barrier to entry we have much lower membership fees than other clubs - this does however mean we can not purchase equipment for individual member use and boats are only available during scheduled program paddles.
PERSONAL BOAT STORAGE
Annual - April 1 - March 31
Our storage containers have 32 spaces for Surfskis, OC1s, Sea Kayaks and SUPs. As a volunteer run organisation we require a 6 hour volunteer commitment for each rack rented. With limited exceptions this effort would be focussed on our core season (April - September). We maintain a waitlist for our racks as they are over subscribed. 2020 rental is $210. Following annual renewal we have 16 names on the waitlist.
PADDLING SHUTTLES - Cancelled under CoVID19
May - August (volunteer dependent)
Volunteer drivers tow our kayak trailer to Porteau Cove and Britannia Beach for paddling shuttles. Other than the shuttle the paddles are un-guided and only for experienced paddlers, the target being to help grow a downwind paddling community in town to participate in the Downwind Championships.
Please ignore any renewal notices from WildApricot, we demised the system at the end of last year. A newsletter with 2020 renewal links will follow shortly. Please do not use this to add names to storage waitlists, the request will be lost, kindly click on the waitlist button above.
